Our first foaling down and all went well. At a convenient 11pm last night, just when I am scanning a mare getting close for frozen AI, this experienced thoroughbred mare pushed out a future racing colt by Artie Schiller – who has had 2 group 1 winners at the Melbourne Cup carnival!! No foaling photos because i phones don’t do night time, so this is at 6am. The onlooker is hanging on to a Zonik baby. But she was giving moral support the entire time. Watching a birth and all the other mares’ reactions is so interesting and rewarding.
Mum and foal doing well today. I think he is a winner.
